The Study

In an effort to post more frequently, I’ll spare you the lengthy epistle this time around, and share an image instead:Study_night_01Many details here were inspired by my visit to Castle Gaiman, but as with the layout of the other interior sets, I have taken many artistic liberties in order to capture the angle, composition and mood I’m trying to achieve. And for any of you CG-geeks out there, this entire set is built and rendered in real time (courtesy of Video Copilot’s Element 3D), all inside of After Effects — pretty cool, right? Hope you enjoy the sneak-peek — more to come!

  2. Dan Guy says:

    It’s a sneak peek, not a wily mountain. ^_^

  3. Trevor R says:

Love the details in the models and textures. Awesome atmosphere as well.

  4. sandra getgood says:

It’s beautiful. Looks like a lot of work has been put into it, which of course it has. Thanks for the update!

  5. DaisyMae says:

Love the moody atmosphere you are creating. It is visceral. Keep it up!

  6. Awesome! Simultaneously simple and sumptuous, if I were to be inadvertently alliterative.

Pleasant surprise to see Amano’s Dream Hunters paining on the wall. A nice touch, and it lends to that comfortable and tangible but slightly ethereal feel the room has going on. I would love to spend time in that room.

    • Xtopher says:

Nice eye (as always), Michael! That was one of the details pulled from the actual location that really adds to the atmosphere.

Hah — I know you do, my friend! And the way this is put together (technologically), I can re-light, re-arrange elements or extend/move walls, etc. depending on the shot I’m trying to get, and I can see it immediately…no more waiting for 3 hours for a render to finish and show me I made it too dark or need to nudge something a little more to one side — that’s huge!!!

  9. dwayne franklin says:

wow it has such a warm feeling I wish I could grab a book from the shelf and sit on one of those soft cozy couch and read great job I can tell a lot of detail went in to this art peice

  10. Lynne Taylor says:

Awesome but I think I will keep night vision goggles as my wallpaper.

    • Xtopher says:

Yeah, those goggles were made by a pretty incredible “company.” 😉 Hope you are well my friend!

      • Lynne Taylor says:

BTW after every summer movie we have sat through the end credits an my husband always says, “Christopher is doing this all by himself?!” So after all this time you don’t have a skeptic but a convert!

        • Xtopher says:

That’s very kind of you to mention, and a keen observation to make. I appreciate your confidence more than I can say, Lynne; please hug your hubby for me! :)

  11. Alberto says:

Wow, that’s amazing, Christopher. It’s so exciting to see how the project is coming along, and I’m so glad you’ve been able to speed up the rendering process.

I have a poster at home of that same Michael Zulli’s Sandman art :)

  12. Sioux says:

Just had one of those Facebook history flashbacks Christopher.
It’s 5 years ago today that I shared & backed your project on FB.
And I’m still super excited to see the results.
Keep going mate. It’s all looking amazing!
    Sx

    • Xtopher says:

Thank you Sioux — I’ve said this many times, but is still true: you will never know how much comments like yours make a hugely positive difference (especially in the day-to-day grind).

  13. Alberto says:

Hey Christopher, it’s been more than six months since the last update. How is it going?

    • Xtopher says:

So sorry Alberto — despite the craziness of these last few months, you certainly deserve better. Stick with me and I’ll do much more to keep you in the loop, my friend.

  14. Jordi says:

Hope you have some more news for us soon ☺

    • Xtopher says:

Hey Jordi; yes, I’m still here and will do a much better job going forward in keeping you updated, I promise!
