Videoblog 01: Design

Hello everyone & welcome to my very first Videoblog! Although it has taken some time to put together, I think you’ll enjoy seeing some of the design work that’s been done so far on the film. I’ve also been working with my web guys to upgrade the site — primarily with the addition of a forum. One of the greatest elements of the entire Kickstarter experience was the opportunity to get to hear from so many of you, to read your comments and stories, and witness the creation of a wonderful community. I wanted to make a home for that giant family to move into, and so I hope you will come here often and get to know each other a little better!

Now, let’s get on with the show:

Videoblog 01: Design from Christopher Salmon on Vimeo.

As you can tell, Dave Laub is a tremendously talented guy, and I’m excited for you to get to know more about him and his work by checking out his blog, and also by reading this hilarious City Weekly interview.

I love watching these behind the scenes videos, 90% of the reason why I buy DVD/Blu-Ray’s is for the speacial features, and to watch these as you guys are making this, knowing that I had some small part in it’s development is AWESOME!

Heh, bless you, sorry to hear the website and talking to a camera gives you pains. I like what you say about creativity as I was doing some quick sketches of elves recently and it looked like…well..an elf. Just like the hundreds of thousands of millions if flippin’ elf images I’ve ever seen. I had an epiphany point that it wasn’t about making something that didn’t LOOK like an elf, but rather to create something which was recognisable and yet, subtly, different. I haven’t really managed it maybe as I’m not a brilliant artist, but I totally understood where you were coming from.

    Cheers!

  11. Great video blog, Christopher. The final product looks like it’s going to be incredible.

Just a thought I had upon reading the story. If in fact this is the devil, then it cannot just be a “cat” either. Redemptive task for fallen angel? Warning parable for the inhabitants of the house?
And surely “THE” devil has more important things to do each evening than bother a family in the Midwest. Is this all taking place in the insane mind of a homeowner with delusions of grandeur (I mean, “THE devil” is coming to my home!” And messing up my kid’s camping trip, come on, how delusional is that?”)
And, perhaps the entire episode could also be an example of how insignificant and powerless the devil really is. Changing form to impress and intimidate, but unable to usurp a simple cat? (I once saw a large fearsome dog reduced to howling tears as a cat calmly inserted a single claw into his tender nose)
I’m sure you don’t need any more ideas, but couldn’t help myself.

  15. Morgenstern says:

The sketch for the Devil Dog looks like the Beast in “Brotherhood of the Wolf”.

I guess it does (a little) … which is cool because I loved that film! (For the most part!)
